savory apple recipes

I'm planning to go to a potluck tonight, but I STILL have no clue what to make. The dish must contain 'apples' somehow. I found these delicious possibilities...

Roast Chicken with Apple, Fennel, Shallots and Crispy Sweet Potatoes (via)

Apple, Leek, and Butternut Squash Gratin (via)

Apple-and-Cheddar Frittata (via)

Apple-Blue Cheese Puffs (via)
Though I make a mean apple pie, a savory apple dish is sure to be welcomed this apple harvest season. I love all of these recipes, but I better pick the quickest/simplest one for tonight...

Do you have a favorite apple dish? Do share below.

Have a great weekend!

great gift ideas ... hint hint

Today I'm featuring a few fun things that make great gifts. My friends like asking me for suggestions when they are stuck on what to give whom. AND since my b-day is around the corner, I decided to make a lil' wishlist. (Hee hee.) In addition to some things I've mentioned before, like Blythe and Poketo stuff, I'd love:

Awesome Pac-man ring (here)

Lucky Brand leather stash bag (here)

Bitch Kit because, well, self-explanatory, no?

Paris map bag. Because I ♥ Paris. (here)

Anyway, these are just a few things on my ever-growing lust list. What's on your list? It is almost Christmas...

fashion + dictionary = fashionary

Take a look at this sketchbook. I love it. It has barely visible templates to get your groove going. It has a reference section, too, with patterns, measurements and even laundry labels! I think I just found the perfect gift for a little future fashion designer i know...

And speaking of fashion... I want this fantastic Color-In Dress. The cut, the color possibilities, the fun!

I'd totally wear it just black and white, but it comes with permanent textile markers (which I'm guessing are permanent). If you can't commit, I'd use washable markers. Why not, right?!

Well, I'm going to take cover now-- tornado warnings ;). Happy Tuesday!

a whole lot of monday

There is so much fabulousness in the world that it's just too much to keep to myself. I just can't. Here you go...

Put these little additions on your sneakers and you are superhero for a day-- anyday! They are from an etsy shop called Small Fly. They come in other shapes and colors. FUN! (via)

These lovely D.I.Y. buttons have 9 holes so you can sew them in with ANY letter of the alphabet. It's perfect for putting your kids name on their clothes, don't you think? Details and instructions here.

The designer in me is all about PMS (no, not that PMS). Pantone Matching System, of course. And these chairs are just the way to show the world my favorite swatch(es).

As I mentioned before, I love owls. I also love cookies. These are the perfect combination of both, just in time for Halloween. Personalized from W&S.

T.G.I ... Fifi!

Have you heard of Fifi Lapin? Well, if not, let me introduce you. She's stylish, sophisticated and cute. And, oh, did I mention she's a rabbit? An illustrated, make-believe, two-dimensional yet full of personality petite lapin! (cute bio here)

She's quite the little fashion icon and has been dishing advice and tips for a while on her blog. Isn't she fabulous? I love how she "wears" designer fashion so well!

You can also "own" a piece of her by visiting her shop where you can buy cards, prints or pins bearing her glamorous likeness. Oh, and Fifi is now author of a book. A sneak peek below.

I have no idea who Fifi's creator is but kudos for banking on such a lovely furry fashionista!

from plastic to fantastic... wow!

Look at these amazing bowls made from plastic water bottles. I ♥ them. These jellyfish-like creations are the work of Turkish architect and artist Gülnur Özdağlar.

Özdağlar goes beyond recycling because she believes it's not enough. Instead she takes the mundane and ubiquitous plastic and creates work of art. From bowls to jewelry, her work is amazing.

Can you believe she goes from this:

To this:

I know, right?! Positively fantastic.

chic children's fashion

Aren't these the cutest pics? Look at those child models doing their thing. Workin' it. Does it bother you?

(All images from Vogue Enfants 2009 via)

I happen to appreciate the clothes, the styling, the photography. And of course the kids are cute, like all kids. But, fashion for kids has its controversy. Pageants are gross, brands are bull, etc, etc... I agree. But I like what I like. And I love these cute clothes and pics.

Ben Sherman
Little Marc Jacobs
Junior Jean Paul Gaultier
Lovely.  But let me just say, I will not spend more than $20 on any one piece of clothing for my kids. Maybe for a jacket or boots ... But really, I find it outrageous to spend a pretty penny on things that a kid will either outgrow or wear *maybe* twice. That's me. My kids wear whatever they want anyway. I believe in freedom of [fashion] expression.

And, I still ♥ these mini fashions.

wonder wall

Do you have a wall in your house that's just...blank? Empty? In need of some lovin'? I'm partial to minimalistic interiors— wait, who am I kidding. If it weren't for a certain someone I live with, I'd probably have stuff hanging from every corner of my house. In a neat, "orderly disarray" kind of fashion, of course ;) Anyway... no matter what, I think you'd appreciate some of these great ideas to fill up that vertical void.

Aren't these fabulous? Ready to grab your hammer and nails and perk up that space? Do tell.

colorific

Happy Monday. Some people have a hard time equating happy with Monday, but to help maybe we can talk about color!!! I got this video link from the hubs and it made my day.

And just because... I went on a rainbow hunt and found an eyeful :)

How about that rainbow? It was handmade with 5000 Pantone color chips glued onto wood boards!! Why/how, do you ask? More here.

This colorful loft is just so cozy and homey. You can see more of it here. I love it.

But for some people colorful homes are just not enough. Meet Jessi Arrington from luckysoandso.com. She blogs all about her color obsession and posts her bright thrift shop outfits. Very cool.

What do you think of these water bottles? They come in gorgeous colors and are BPA-free, foldable, freezable, reusable AND dishwasher safe. Nice!!

If you were suffering from the Monday blues, I hope that adding red, yellow, purple, pink and some other bunches of color made you feel much, much better. xoxo
