bags for the people

Today there is a sewing workshop by Bags for the People in Brooklyn, NY at the Etsy Labs! If, like me, you are nowhere near NYC you can join them virtually here.

From Etsy.com:
Bags for the People is a non-profit organization that provides the public with a sustainable alternative to plastic bags. They use all repurposed materials and give out bags for free. Bags for the People also perform community building workshops and events to convince people to make the switch from plastic to reusable and inspire the public to take an active and creative role in life. We'll have all the materials you'll need to sew a bag of your own here at the Etsy Labs! If you have any other fabric or old clothing that you would like to turn into bags, please bring them along.

Bags for the People's tagline (and mission) is Sew me. Use me. Wash me. Reuse me. Visit their site to find out more.

If you want to participate from home you will need these supplies:

Happy Sewing!  xo

spring stylin'

Wasn't the weather yesterday great? It totally got me in the mood for Spring. I got a pedi and all-- prepping for airy, strappy shoes. I also did a little window shopping (or should I see browser-window shopping). Here are some fab finds:

Shorts (via)

So, it's probably still too cold for shorts, but I like these because you can dress them up or down. And this dress below is just so feminine. Not sure I can pull it off. But it's dreamy:

Blue Flowy Dress - in cream too (via)

This is more like what I would wear on a casual weekend stroll:

Though I'd be real tempted to change the red flats for these sexy peep-to heels:

And because it's about Paris, here is this handy little list of Ten Ways to Dress Like a Parisian:

This image comes from an upcoming book called Parisian Chic by Ines de la Fressange. A must buy!

Hope you have a fabulous Friday!

dreaming of paris

Because almost on a daily basis I dream of running away to Paris, I incredibly enjoy visiting Jordan Ferney's blog. Right now she is in Paris with her family. She just took off, did it. Left everything in San Francisco and headed overseas with children and husband in tow. How awesome is that?!

Anyway, in the meantime, I live vicariously though her. I'm posting some of her pics from little discoveries she's made– some while getting lost in the beautiful streets of the city.

These are from the Paris flea market:

These are from an amazing shop called La Droguerie (The Drugstore):

Are you jealous? See more of her adventure on her site, Oh Happy Day!

Hope you have a happy day, too!

Some fun things...

Hope your weekend was fabulous! I enjoyed most of it... which is good. I have some goodies to share:

Isn't this an amazing quilt? Love the pattern, colors, technique... Fab!

This scratch-off map, below, is the perfect way to show the places you've visited... Though, in my lifetime, I probably won't even "scratch" the surface! hee hee

And this next one is an incredibly novel idea for a calendar. It's only March so you may still be able to enjoy it; but I have a feeling that for this one you have to start it right on the first day of the month:

(Ink Calendar by Oscar Diaz)

And if you are anything like me and do a lot of cup-dropping, wine-spilling, glass-tilting, etc... then you need one of these:

Though I have heard that you can safely wash your keyboard in the diswasher, I didn't try it last time I spilled coffee all over mine. I ended up dishing out $$ for a new one. If only...

Well, hope you have a lovely day!

spring flowers

If you've been to the mall lately you've seen signs of spring in just about every shop. Flower prints are everywhere...

I'm not the girly girl type, but I do want to get my hands on a few tops or dresses and then 'bell' it up with, maybe, a leather jacket and/or funky shoes. What do you think of this last one? I LOVE it.
Can you do the flower thing?

where children sleep

Wanted to share this book with everyone. It's is amazing and heart-wrenching at the same time. Photographer James Mollison takes photographs of children and their bedrooms, all over the world. Each photo is accompanied by the portrait of the child. It's a definite life lesson about the have and the have-nots. I think all kids (and adults!) should take a look at this book and see life in a different perspective.

Eight-year-old Harrison lives in a mansion in New Jersey, USA

This unnamed four-year-old boy lives on the outskirts of Rome, Italy.
He and his family all sleep on the mattress in the photograph

Four-year-old Kaya lives in an apartment in Tokyo, Japan

Seventeen-year-old, 'X' lives in a 'favela' in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Four-year-old Jivan lives in a skyscraper in Brooklyn, New York, USA

You see more/read it online or buy it here. (via Creative Review)
