I love Jonathan Safran Foer. My favorite book of his is Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (Much to one of my friend's dismay [Angie!] ). Anyway, I had no idea he had a new book. And it's a work of art. I'm not speaking about the writing (I'll let you know what I think when I read it), but about the actual printed book.

About The Tree of Codes:

Inspired to exhume a new story from an existing text, Jonathan Safran Foer has taken his "favorite" book, The Street of Crocodiles by Polish-Jewish writer Bruno Schulz, and used it as a canvas, cutting into and out of the pages, to arrive at an original new story told in Jonathan Safran Foer's own acclaimed voice.

Anyway, London-based designer Sara de Bondt designed the book and it is an amazing process. Here is a 'making-of' video:

Can't wait to get my hands on this one! I'll let you know what I think.

I love Todd McLellan's photographic art project. This Canadian photographer disassembles and carefully arranges the inner parts and components of neat stuff such as typewrites, cameras, etc... Check it out:

Isn't he adorable? As a lover of all things "owl", this cool little paper sculpture caught my eye right away. It's from 3eyedbear. They create paper creatures and make the kits available as free downloads for us mere mortals :)

If you rather have a doggy or a kitty (or some other 3D creature) on your mantle, 3eyedbear has various original creations. So start collecting!

John Kenn's day job is writing and directing kids' TV shows. But on his free time, this Dane likes to make 'monsterdrawings' on Post-It notes. Aren't these just darkly divine?

Kenn calls his art "a little window into a different world." He's inspired by childhood nightmares, literature and folklore. There isn't much information about him on his blog nor on the interwebs, but he gave a short interview to My Modern Met. Quite interesting...

Have you heard of Black Apple Dolls? They are the cutest felt dolls ever.
I love these. Z wants to make one. Creator Emily Martin was featured on Martha so now you can watch a how-to video on her site. Emily doesn't seem to have any of these for sale on her Black Apple etsy shop right now, but she has other great gift ideas made from her art.

rewined: upcycling wine bottles

If you've ever been to my house you've seen my collection of wine bottles. It happened quite by accident. I just didn't want to toss out my first handful after a party. I wanted to use them for something. Then, there was one more here and one more there...

Months later, when we moved to this house, I failed to mention to the movers that they were to be left behind. Lo and behold, as I unpacked one of a zillion boxes that summer, I realized that over a dozen collected bottles made their way across the country with us. So... here they are. Collecting dust and growing. I still have no idea what I am going to do with them.

Every so often I find great ideas. Now I just have to Do It. Check it out:

art with a pencil - not as obvious as it sounds

Well, I'm back after a long little holiday I gave myself. I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving.

Today, I'm sharing the work of Dalton Ghetti, a Brazilian sculptor living in Connecticut. He carves amazing miniature art from pencil tips! See for yourself:

Isn't he amazing? He doesn't even use a magnifying glass, just a razor, needle and a sculpting knife. You can find out more and see other work here and here.

I am so happy about this. You know how much I like owl stuff. Shivani from My Owl Barn is sharing this wonderful project. She has featured many owl artists on her blog and now they're sharing their work so you can make your own calendar from their images.

I've spent most of my morning pouring over the work of People Too. The Russian cut paper artists, Alexei Lyapunov and Lena Ehrlich, are amazing. Their work speaks for itself. Absolute art!
